Rohit Sharma nominated for India’s highest sporting honour. BCCI nominated him for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna on 31st May 2020. The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award is the highest award in the sports category in India.

The BCCI has also nominated fast bowler Ishant Sharma, opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and woman allrounder Deepti Sharma for the Arjuna Award.

Our ‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma nominated for India’s highest sporting honour due to his impressive performance in 2019 with the bat. he scored 556 runs at an average of 92.66 in five Test matches, all while opening the batting for the first time; and 1657 ODI runs at 57.30, including the unprecedented feat of five centuries at a single World Cup.

If Rohit wins the top sporting honour, then he will become the fourth cricketer, after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli to have this honour.

According to the BCCI president Saurav Ganguly– Rohit Sharma has set new benchmarks as a batsman and achieved scores people thought were not possible in the shorter formats of the game.

Rajiv gandhi Khel ratna award

This award is the highest sporting honour of India. The award is named after Rajiv Gandhi, a former Prime Minister of India.

The first time in 1991-92, Chess Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand was honoured with this award.

Sport shooter Abhinav Bindra at the age of 18, became the youngest recipient of the award in 2001.

The recipient of the award gets a medallion, a certificate, and a cash prize of ₹7.5 lakh.
